Our Vanda Road Campus

Pedagogy and Curriculum

Our Vanda Road campus' English Curriculum is Inquiry-Based and Integrated (Language and Literacy, Early Numeracy, Discovery of the World, Gross and Fine Motor Development, Social and Emotional Development, and Aesthetic and Creative Expression). Our children developed conceptual understanding in local and global contexts. Through collaboration and teamwork, the children and teachers foster a learning community. Our approaches to learning develop cognitive and meta-cognitive skills; thinking, research, communication, social, and self-management skills.

Our proprietary Chinese Montessori programme develops children in the area of Practical life, Sensorial, Cultural, Math, Language Speech & Drama.

Our programme empowers children to make choices in their learning, being focused, independent and self-regulated. Our self-made 3D materials allowed children to effectively learn Chinese characters, strokes in writing, sentence making, Hanyu Pinyin, and addition and subtraction.

Inquiry and Montessori Method

Our Infantcare Programme focuses on building a loving and caring environment for the children to develop holistically. Routines, bonding and nurturing interactions are part of our curriculum, guided by the Early Years Development Framework (EYDF) and our Inquiry-based activities. Our programme allows flexibility and accommodates to individual needs of infants and toddlers. We greatly emphasize building a strong home-school partnership with our parents, the children's first teachers.

The EYDF sets the standards for quality care and learning practices that are specific to the developmental needs of infants, toddlers and nursery children. It defines the outcomes for learning and development and provides broad guidelines for educarers to plan and deliver a culturally and developmentally appropriate curriculum for these children.

Objectives of the Framework are:

1. To define the principles for quality care and learning practices

2. To communicate standards on programmes and practices

3. To foster strong partnership and community collaborations

4. To strengthen and promote continuing professional development

The EYDF embraces a broad vision of ‘Children being Secure, Confident, Safe and Healthy’, ‘Children being Involved, Engaged and Enquiring’ and ‘Centres, Families and the Community Connecting and Relating.’

The five key pillars that uphold this vision focusses on:

  • 1. The Developing Child

Exploring the roles of heredity and environment in the cognitive, perceptual, and behavioural development of the child.

  • 2. The Intentional Programme

The programme, environment and curriculum are flexible to meet the needs of young children. The programme intentionally promotes children’s development through positive interactions and building warm and nurturing relationships. Materials and resources are safe, available and easily accessible to children.

  • 3. The Professional Educarer question

The educarer is attuned and responsive to the needs of young children, and keenly aware of the different developmental stages and milestones. The educarer engages in reflective practices and continues to develop her skills and knowledge in working with young children, families and the community.

  • 4. The Involved Family

The family is an integral part of young children’s development. A shared and sustained partnership between the centre and the home draws on their respective strengths to ensure that children’s growth and developmental needs are addressed optimally. The partnership also contributes to the consistency and continuity of children’s care and development.

  • 5. The Engaged Community

The partnership between home and centre is further enriched by linkages to the community. Educarers are aware of and can gain access to a range of community resources for young children’s learning and recreation. These resources can also be invited to the centre to enhance children’s health and learning.
